🎯Give for Good 2025: The Nonprofit Hunger Games Are Back, Baby
Once a year, Shreveport and North Louisiana’s nonprofit scene turns into something straight out of reality TV. But instead of roses or immunity idols, everyone’s chasing clicks, hearts, and donations.
It’s called Give for Good, but let’s be honest—around here, we call it the Nonprofit Hunger Games.
This year’s main event? Tuesday, May 6, 2025, with early giving already heating up like a church potluck. It’s all online, all day, and highly competitive in the friendliest, most Southern way possible.
🎨🎷Let the Festival Face-Off Begin
On the artsy end of the arena, we’ve got two festival favorites ready to duke it out for donation glory:
Red River Revel – the arts festival that brings funnel cakes, live music, face paint, and somehow 400 children playing drums at once to downtown Shreveport.
Highland Jazz & Blues Festival – the funky, free fest with killer music, Highland flair, and a suspiciously large number of dancing toddlers holding corn dogs.
Both are longtime crowd favorites, and both are absolutely participating in Give for Good. Will Team Revel ride a wave of turkey leg loyalty to the top? Will Highland Jazz win hearts with saxophones and swag bags? Only the leaderboard will tell.
🛒The “Add to Giving Cart” Olympics
Here’s how it works: from now until May 6, you can head to giveforgoodnla.org, browse through 232 local nonprofits, and click your way to philanthropist status from your couch. (Bonus points if you do it in pajamas.)
Every gift helps your favorite cause AND might score them some bonus money from the prize pool known as the “Lagniappe Fund”—a Cajun way of saying, “a little something extra because you’re fabulous.”
Also: nonprofits can win surprise Golden Tickets for getting donations during mystery hours. It’s like Powerball for do-gooders.
🧼No Galas, No 5Ks, Just Clean Competition
You won’t find tuxedos or fun runs here—Give for Good is all online, meaning zero chafing and minimal small talk. Nonprofits get creative, flooding your feed with heartfelt stories, clever memes, and the occasional staff member dancing on TikTok for donations.
Some groups even host mini-events or watch parties to spice things up. Think: a happy hour where everyone’s checking their phones to see if Aunt Rhonda finally donated to the cat rescue.
đź’¸Everybody Wins (Except Your Self-Control)
The best part? Every dollar goes directly to the nonprofits (thanks, Community Foundation 👏), and there’s no such thing as a loser. If you give, you’re a hero. If your nonprofit wins a bonus prize, they’re a hero. If you give to the Highland Jazz Fest and the Revel because you’re emotionally torn between brass bands and chalk murals—you’re the real MVP.
So whether you're Team Revel, Team Highland, or Team “I Just Really Like Puppies,” jump in and donate.
Because in this Hunger Games, the only thing getting slayed is unmet fundraising goals.
