SHREVEPORT, LA — A major step forward in Shreveport’s redevelopment and biomedical research landscape is underway. Prevot Design, in collaboration with Sutton Beebe Babin Architects and nationally recognized Flad Architects, has been selected to lead the design of the LSU Health Shreveport Foundation’s Cancer and Cardiovascular Research Facility, to be built at the site of the former Sears building at St. Vincent Mall.

The new facility will support LSU Health Shreveport’s mission of advancing research in two of the most critical areas of public health: cancer and cardiovascular disease. The facility will include modern laboratories, research workspaces, and infrastructure to support expanded faculty recruitment and collaboration across disciplines.

The project represents a significant reinvestment in the city’s urban core, transforming a long-vacant commercial site into a hub for scientific discovery. The architectural partnership brings together local and national expertise, with Prevot Design and Sutton Beebe Babin Architects both based in Shreveport and Flad Architects contributing specialized experience in research and healthcare environments.

Design development is actively underway, with completion currently targeted for late 2027. While budget figures have not yet been publicly released, the project is garnering strong interest from private donors through the LSU Health Shreveport Foundation.

This initiative reflects a broader effort to expand LSU Health Shreveport’s research capacity and to strengthen its role in economic development and in improving health outcomes across the region. The facility will serve as a cornerstone for future biomedical growth and innovation – providing new opportunities for the campus and the surrounding community.

As additional details become available, this project is expected to be a catalyst for further development in Shreveport.
